Track Groups on the Web App

Web app

When you record the same route more than once, your iPhone, iPad, or Android device puts those recordings in a track group. At maps.topomaps.co you can see those groups, manage them, and show each group as one line on the map instead of a stack of overlapping tracks.

The web app doesn't find groups itself. They appear once one of your devices finds a route you've recorded more than once and syncs. You can also start a group by hand from a track's details.

How to show one line per route

  1. Click Settings in the sidebar.
  2. Under Map, turn on Group Repeated Tracks.

While it's on, the map draws only one recording of each group, called its map track. The other recordings stay in your data. Turn the setting off to see every recording again.

This setting is saved in this browser only and doesn't change your phone or tablet. Your devices have their own setting.

Viewing your track groups

Click Track Groups in the sidebar, just under My Tracks. In a team it's called Team Track Groups. If Group Repeated Tracks is off, the list shows the switch so you can turn it on.

Each group shows its title, its average distance and duration, and how many tracks it holds, with an icon for each activity. Use the three buttons at the top of the list to choose Compact (the map track's activity icon in its color), Standard (a small map of the map track), or Expanded (a card with a large map). It's the same setting as the My Routes, My Tracks, My Waypoints, and My Regions lists, so changing it in one list changes it in all of them.

Click a group to open it. The map moves to the group's map track. Clicking a grouped line on the map also opens its group. When several items are under your click, the group is listed by its title and number of recordings.

Inside a track group

The group shows the average distance, elevation gain, and duration of its recordings, the map track's elevation profile, and every recording, newest first. Click a recording to open it.

The buttons at the top are:

  • Profile: jump to the map track's elevation profile.
  • Rename: change the group's title.
  • Color: change the map track's color, which is the color the group draws in.
  • More:
    • Hide on Map / Show on Map: hide or show every recording in the group.
    • Move All to Group…: move every recording into another group. This group is removed.
    • Delete Group: remove the group. Your recordings stay and show separately on the map again.
    • Delete All Recordings: delete every recording in the group, and the group.

Click the gear next to a recording's name to:

  • Use as Map Track: draw this recording for the whole group.
  • Not the Same Route: take the recording out of the group. Your devices won't add it back automatically.

Adding a track to a group

  1. Open the track.
  2. Click More, then Organization, then Add to Track Group….
  3. Choose a group, or choose New Track Group to start a group with just this track. Groups nearest the track are listed first.

When a track is in a group, its details show the group's name and how many recordings it holds. Click it to open the group. To take the track out, click More, then Organization, then Remove from Track Group.

Teams

Team members who can add data can manage track groups they created. Team admins and owners can manage any team track group. Viewers can see groups but can't change them.
